About me
I was born in Angola to a Portuguese father and an Angolan mother. I was 8 years old when my family moved to Portugal.
This beautiful country remains dear to my heart, its music, colours and sunshine have left a strong imprint on me.
At the age of 18 years old I moved to London to pursue my studies and remained there, until,
at the age of 29, I started my family, with whom I embarked on many journeys around the world.
I have thus far lived in 9 countries across 5 continents.
In 2013, I contracted a serious food poisoning, followed by a bacterial infection whilst living in Indonesia. The following 2 years were marked by an intense state of fatigue, but it all culminated into a truly poor state of health in 2015, leading to a Lupus diagnosis. It was the beginning of an intense conventional medicine treatment protocol.
Aware of side-effects of the medication, but also frustrated and suffering from this disabling disease, I began to look for more natural, complementary and holistic alternatives.
It was during this period, that I crossed paths with a specialist recognized in the field of Integrative and Functional Medicine. Supported by him, I started a protocol targeting toxin elimination and restoring metabolic balance. The change was rapid and amazingly positive.
Motivated by this transformation, I started an Integrative Health Nutrition course in order to better understand why and how clean and natural food, nutrients and detoxification (secondary foods), as well as emotional management, external and environmental factors (primary foods) can radically and durably impact life. Nutrition had gotten me back into shape, I was going to make it my profession.
I have learnt from my own health struggle, that I am the key factor in promoting my own health. Our body is amazing in its capacity to restore itself, if only we gave it the right tools to enable it to do the job it is supposed to do.
With 80 percent of our immune system residing in the gut, our gut health helps determine how we feel both physically and mentally. The gut is one of the secrets to a healthier you.
Today, scientific studies prove it: what we eat, how we feel and how we live determine our health. Everything passes through the gut, also known as our “Second Brain”.
Certified at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York, and pursuing further studies in FM nutrition, this approach naturally led me to Yoga and Meditation, as tools to help manage stress, trauma, environment which directly affects our health.
Yoga and meditation thus became two powerful therapy allies on my path to well-being, (but the list is not exhaustive), the sources and choices of alternative approaches are abundant and equally beneficial.
